|Bible Verse/Message：||Jesus had encouraged his disciples to be the light of the world; it was Jesus’ affirmation and expectation, because “Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”|
(Matthew 5: 15-16) Jesus explained the meaning of becoming a disciple is to stand as a witness of God.
I used a little oil lamp in Jewish people’s daily life to show the teaching of Jesus. The contrast of light and shade between the subject and background illustrates the function of light. Even though this oil lamp is tiny and its light is dim, as long as it is lit, the light is obvious and catches people’s attention. Unlike a traditional oil lamp, I obscurely drew two fishes and five dents to symbolize the miracle of “Five Loaves and Two Fishes”. Combining the miracle of Jesus with His teachings, my intention is to emphasize these are “signs” that let people know God, and to show the possibility and necessity to reveal God in the secular world.
